Isiolo Governor condemns demolition of homes, accuses Isiolo OCS of abuse of power
The demolitions, carried out by police officers under the command of the Isiolo Officer Commanding Station (OCS) on Friday, left scores of residents homeless.
Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo has condemned the demolition of homes and businesses in Checheles B, Wabera ward, calling the operation “unlawful” and an abuse of state power after dozens of families were forcibly evicted without notice early Thursday morning.
The demolitions, carried out by police officers under the command of the Isiolo Officer Commanding Station (OCS) on Friday, left scores of residents homeless.
The governor who visited the affected residents said the operation was linked to a disputed land claim and may have involved fraudulent court orders and collusion between rogue officers and private individuals.
“I received disturbing reports of unlawful demolitions in Checheles B. Families who have long called the area home were forcefully evicted, allegedly over a disputed land claim,” Guyo said.
“Security agencies exist to protect citizens’ property. Using force to evict residents without due process is unacceptable.”
Some of the affected families had lived in the area for decades.

The governor accused unnamed individuals of using fake land documents to obtain court orders that were then enforced through police action.
He vowed to pursue accountability and ensure justice for the affected families.
“Credible reports point to collusion between rogue officers and an individual suspected of fraudulently acquiring land documents and misusing court orders,” Guyo said.
The county boss insisted that the County Government of Isiolo remains the legal custodian of public land and that we will not allow illegal evictions.

The governor also reaffirmed the county’s commitment to the Alternative Justice System (AJS), a community-based initiative aimed at resolving land and other disputes peacefully and fairly.
“We reaffirm our commitment to the AJS, launched last year, which offers a fair, community-centered avenue for resolving land and other disputes without violence or injustice,” Guyo added.
In conclusion, Governor Guyo expressed solidarity with the victims and pledged support from the county government.
“To the affected families, we stand with you. My administration will take all lawful steps to restore your dignity and protect your rights. Isiolo must be a county where justice, accountability, and humanity prevail,” he added.
